If it is necessary to type and edit documents in more than one language, it is possible to add input languages to suit the requirement of the user. Many input languages support a variety of keyboard layouts.
The default language in Windows for the Graphic User Interface is English and the input language in the keyboard is English Qwerty. These can be changed as preferred by the user via the Control Panel.
Keyboard Layout:
1. English Qwerty can be changed to English Dvorak but having done so, the output letters that appear on the editors will no longer correspond to the keys in the keyboard. So they will have to be rearranged to suit the altered layout. The On-screen keyboard can be used as a reference to make the alterations.
2. It is possible to change / add an additional input language to enter text from the list shown HERE. All languages of the World, though inactive by default, are included with Windows, and needs to be added to the list of languages before they can be used. While doing so, Windows automatically adds the keyboard layout for that language both on the physical keyboard connected as well as on the on-screen keyboard. The on-screen keyboard can be used as a reference point to study the keyboard layout.
The Language bar provides a quick way to switch between the input language or keyboard layout from the desktop.

3. Check whether pressing the Shift+Alt keys makes the symbols alternate between 'EN' and 'MY'.
Select EN when typing English.
Select MY when typing Malayalam.(Also tick-select In-script Keyboard for Malayalam in Windows Operating System)
(Note: If you have activated both "Malayalam" & "In-script keyboard for Malayalam in Windows Operative System" the Language bar will show both "Malayalam" & "In-script keyboard for Malayalam in Windows Operative System" along with English. If you have activated only either one of the two, then the Language Bar will show only "Malayalam" with English.)
While typing you can toggle between English and Malayalam anywhere in the middle of a sentence by the using the key combination Shift+Alt (Remember that this is a Bi-lingual Keyboard).
If this does not work, Go To Start >> Control Panel >> Language >> Change Keyboard or other input methods >> Keyboard and Languages Tab >> Change Keyboard Button >> Advanced settings Tab >> Under Hot keys for input Languages Action, Select Between Input Languages >> Change Key Sequence Button >> Under - Switch Input Language, Select Left Alt+Shift and under - Switch Keyboard Layout select Ctrl+Shift >> OK >> Apply&OK >> Apply&OK.

When typing Malayalam using 'MY' make sure that "Inscript Keyboard for Malayalam is tick selected. If Malayalam is the one tick-select change it to Inscript for proper rendering of letters, especially chillaksharam"
The set of buttons and options on the Language bar changes depending on the text services you have installed and the software program that's currently active.

വിന്‍ഡോസിലെ default Malayalam എന്നതിലാണു് മുകളിലെ കമന്റ് എഴുതിയതെങ്കില്‍ ചില്ലക്ഷരം കിട്ടുന്നില്ല എന്നതു മാത്രമാണു് പ്രശ്നം എങ്കില്‍ വ്യഞ്ജനം+്+CtrlShift1 എന്ന രീതിയില്‍ അടിച്ചാല്‍ ചില്ലക്ഷരം കിട്ടും.
Deleteഉദാഃ ന+്+CtrlShift1 = ന്‍. അതു പോലെ ല് ള് ര്‍ ണ്‍ ക്‍ എന്നിവ കിട്ടാന്‍ പകരം ല ര ണ ക എന്നിവ ഉപയോഗിക്കുക. വിവരം അറിയിക്കാന്‍ മറന്നു പോകണ്ട.
ന+്+CtrlShift1 = ന്‍. This was a bit confusing. You mean ന then ് then ctrl+shift+1 (number key 1) . I am trying to learn inscript and for me the google tools inscript keyboard looks easier because of its onscreen keyboard. Can you please tell me how to use it for getting chillu? I am talking about the desktop tool of google, which has options for transliteration as well as inscript. For this neither ] nor ctrl+shift+1 works, and I am unable for the moment to find any relevant documentation. Can you also tell me how to learn inscript, without actually pasting the letters on my keyboard. I touchtype on qwerty at good speed in English, and I am trying the blind method to learn malayalam inscript. But when I do some tasks that require malayalam writing, I opt for transliteration because it is easy. For learning, inscript and for actual tasks, Manglish transliteration. Since I am only learning, I need a visual onscreen keyboard to write in inscript as of now. For this I keep one window with a keyboard layout jpg open. But that is difficult when I have browser window open. The google keyboard on the other hand floats above the browser window and does not go in the background when I start typing in another active tab. Sorry I have not read your blog fully and sequentially. Thanks in advance and great appreciation for the work you are doing.

DeleteInstead of relying on the physical keyboard to type and enter data, you can use On-Screen Keyboard in Widows. On-Screen Keyboard displays a visual keyboard with all the standard keys. Moreover it will show the Malayalam Keys also on hitting Shift+Alt after you activate Malayalam in Windows. You can select keys using the mouse or another pointing device, or you can use a single key or group of keys to cycle through the keys on the screen or learn to type looking on the layout

Start >> Help >> Type "On Screen Keyboard" (without the quotation marks) in the search box. >> Click to open On screen keyboard
Caution : Install the required softwares first before trying to enable Malayalam. It is available under "Softwares" in this blog

k=ക,K=ഖ. The first is without the shift key (small k) and the second is with shift key (Capital K)

Inscript keyboard downloadable from Kerala Govt web site is a better typing tool than the default Inscript in WinOS.

Remember that you are using malayalam keyboard to type. You should know the position of the malayalam letters and forget the English layout.

Im able to type Malayalam, whether it is EN or MY.. Bt wen it is EN (A =അ, B=ആ, C =ഇ.. I =ക, N=ച, ..) i cnt get any koottaksharam or chillaksharam.. Whereas, wen it is MY (D =അ, E=ആ, F =ഇ.. K =ക, ;=ച, ...) the font gets defaulted to Kartika, no way to chang the font.. Pls hlp me..

ReplyDeleteI am unable to understand how you get Malayalam with the language bar in EN, that too in alphabetical order! Is it a new Malayalam input method? What is your OS, Malayalam Input software, Office software? Unable to help without the information.

To prevent font getting defaulted to Karthika, either change the default font under Format Fonts/Language setting in the Office programme OR Select a few typed letters and select your font and continue typing.
എന്റെ പ്രശ്നം ഇതാണ്. ചില്ലക്ഷരങ്ങള് ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്യാം. നോട്ട് പാഡില്‍ കാണുന്നുമുണ്ട്. പക്ഷെ വേര്‍‍ഡ് 2007 ല് കാണുന്നില്ല. പകരം ല് റ് എന്നൊക്കെ വരുന്നു. ഞാന് യൂണികോഡ് ഫോണ്ടുകളും ഇന്സ്ക്രിപ്റ്റ് കീ ബോര്‍ഡും ഇന്‍സ്റ്റാള്‍ ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.

DeleteMS Word - ഇല്‍ മലയാളം ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്യുമ്പോള്‍ ചില്ലക്ഷരത്തിന് പകരം ചന്ദ്രകല ചേര്‍ത്ത് അക്ഷരം വന്നാല്‍, ചന്ദ്രക്കല ചേര്‍ത്തുവന്ന അക്ഷരത്തിന് മുന്‍പ് ഒരു single quotation mark ( ' ) ചേര്‍ത്താല്‍ മതി. ചില്ലക്ഷരം ശരിയായി കിട്ടും. വായിക്കുവാന്‍ വലിയ തടസ്സം വരികയുമില്ല.
ഉദാ:- ഇംഗ്ലിഷില് - ഇംഗ്ലിഷി'ല്, സെലക്ട് ചെയ്യാന് - സെലക്ട് ചെയ്യാ’ന്‍.

ReplyDeleteഇതു് ഉണ്ണിയേട്ടന്റെ മാത്രം പ്രശ്നം അല്ല. MS Wordല് ചില്ലക്ഷരം കിട്ടിയാല്‍ തന്നെ ഒരു വരിയില്‍ ഒന്നില്‍ കൂടുതല്‍ ചില്ലക്ഷരം അടിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ അവ ചന്ദ്രക്കല ആയിട്ടേ കിട്ടൂ. ഒരു വിദ്യ ചെയ്തു നോക്കു. Wordpadല് ചില്ലക്ഷരം കിട്ടും. അതില്‍ റ്റൈപ്പു് ചെയ്ത മാറ്റര്‍ , ചില്ലക്ഷരം ഉള്‍പ്പെടെ, സേവ് ചെയ്തിട്ടു് ആ ഫൈല്‍ MS Word ല് ഓപ്പണ്‍ ചെയ്തു് edit ചെയ്യാന് പറ്റുമോ എന്നു നോക്കു. ഏറ്റവും എളുപ്പ വഴി Open Office അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ Libre Office download ചെയ്തു് അതു് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നതാവും നന്നു്.
എന്റെ ലാപ്പില് യൂണികോഡ് ഇൻസ്ററാൾ ആകുന്നില്ല.

ReplyDeleteMaybe you are trying to install a 32bit Inscript on a 64bit Windows.
- If you are using Windows 7 or 8, inscript keyboard comes pre-installed in the operating system itself. You do not have to install it separately.
Even if you are using 64 bit, check the following to activate the default Malayalam in Windows already preinstalled in Windows. All that will be needed is to activate it.
Start > Control Panel > Languages > Change keyboard > Keyboard tab > change keyboard button > general tab > Add button > Select Malayalam > Keyboard > Tick select Inscript keyboard (Only if is not available would you have to install it. ) > OK > Apply OK > Apply OK
Thereafter install the required fonts as well.
Please get back to me if you haven't solved your problem.

ചില്ലക്ഷരത്തിന്റെ രണ്ട് വശങ്ങളിലും ഓരോ space ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്യുമ്പോള്‍ ല്, റ് മുതലായവ ല്,ര്‍ എന്നിങ്ങനെ മാറുന്നതായി കാണുന്നു.

Chillaksharm get converted to chandrakkala when typing space after chillaksharam? This is a problem inherent in MS Word! No solution! Use Open Office freeware to type Malayalam. Free download is available. Search in Google. Or try Wordpad.

MS Word - ഇല്‍ മലയാളം ടൈപ്പ് ചെയ്യുമ്പോള്‍ ചില്ലക്ഷരത്തിന് പകരം ചന്ദ്രകല ചേര്‍ത്ത് അക്ഷരം വന്നാല്‍, ചന്ദ്രക്കല ചേര്‍ത്തുവന്ന അക്ഷരത്തിന് മുന്‍പ് ഒരു single quotation mark ( ' ) ചേര്‍ത്താല്‍ മതി. ചില്ലക്ഷരം ശരിയായി കിട്ടും. വായിക്കുവാന്‍ വലിയ തടസ്സം വരികയുമില്ല.

Microsoft Indic Language Input Tool Malayalam അല്ലെങ്കില്‍ Google language Input Tools Malayalam ഇന്‍സ്റ്റോള്‍ ചെയ്ത ശേഷം, എം‌എസ് വേഡ് 2010 – Home menu വില്‍ Font option –ഇല്‍ “Arial Unicode MS” ഫോണ്ട് ഒഴികെ മറ്റു വിന്‍ഡോസ് 7 ഫോണ്ടുകളിലെല്ലാം ചില്ലക്ഷരങ്ങള് ശരിയായി കിട്ടും.
" Arial Unicode MS " Fond ആണ് select ചെയ്തതെങ്കില്‍ ചില്ലക്ഷരങ്ങള് ചന്ദ്രകല ചേര്‍ത്ത് കാണിക്കുന്ന പോരായ്മ ഇതിലും ആവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. കൂടാതെ File name –ഇല്‍ ചില്ലക്ഷരങ്ങള് ഉണ്ടെങ്കില്‍ അവയും file open ചെയ്യുമ്പോള്‍ ചന്ദ്രകല ചേര്‍താണ് വരുന്നത് എന്നതും പരിഹരിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടില്ല.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately adobe softwares do not support Unicode. Try to insert text using the character map.

ReplyDeleteYour problem is that inherent in Word up to MS Office7. Upgrade to MS Office8 or use OpenOffice that is available for free in the internet. Search for it in Google.

രണ്ടാമത്തേത് ഉപയോഗിച്ചപ്പോള്‍ R എന്ന ഇംഗ്ലീഷ ലറ്റര്‍ ഒരു വ‍ൃത്തത്തിനകത്ത് വന്ന് ചില്ലക്ഷരത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന അക്ഷരത്തോട് ചേര്‍ന്ന് നില്‍ക്കുകയാണ്..
മറ്റേതെങ്കിലുും കോമ്പിനേഷന്‍?.. ഇതിനൊരു പോം വഴി..?

ReplyDeleteYour first key combination is OK provided you are not using +signs or space between the characters and function keys. Maybe you are not using or selecting the proper font. Go to my home page. Download and right click and install Anjali old lipi. Anjali new lipi is available under the tab Fonts. Configure the malayalam font as default font in Open office. Use this font for typing. It should solve your problem.
Is there a way to type the symbols for "ra" ( not 'ൃ' but the one for priya) and "ya" (as in 'thyagam') in INSCRIPT ( inbuilt in win xp ) ?

DeleteIt seems that google does not recognize zwj and nzwj. Hence chillaksharam incomlete. Try using atomic chillaksharam if you insist on using chrome.

Activate Malayalam in windows. Control panel, regional languages, Select Malayalam. Done. Shift+control to switch between languages. Use onscreen keyboard to learn letter layout.No need to install third party sofwares. Details available in my blog pages. Good luck.

English typing ൽ നല്ല സ്പീഡുണ്ടെങ്കിൽ transliteration നോക്കാം. മലയാളം മലയാളത്തിൽ റ്റൈപ്പ് ചെയ്യാനാണ് താല്പര്യം എങ്കിൽ Inscript Keyboard ആണ് നല്ലത്. It is inbuilt in Windows but need to be activated via control panel > languages > keyboards > add language. Downloading Madhavam Inscript Keyboard from the home page and installing is easier in that it gets activated automatically and comes with help files. The choice is yours. And - No effort is easy because it needs patience. Visit the home page of this blog.

എന്റേത് വിൻഡോസ് 8 ലെ കീബോർഡ് ആണ്. ഇതിൽ "സോഫ്റ്റ്വെയർ", "സോവിയറ്റ്യൂണിയൻ" എന്നീ വാക്കുകൾ ശരിയായി ലഭിക്കാൻ എന്തുചെയ്യണം? ഇതിനായി Non-Joint എന്ന സംവിധാനം ടൈപ്പിംഗിൽ ഉണ്ടെന്ന്കേട്ടു. അതെങ്ങനെയാണ്?
